Why Singing Badly With My Teens Is Good for All of Us

I may or may not have burst into my kids’ rooms this morning singing to “Keep the Beat” by Lin-Manuel Miranda. I say “may not have” because I am fairly certain my boys would say that I wasn’t singing because singing sounds good and apparently, I sounded beyond awful.

All seriousness – singing is so good for the soul and your nerves, no matter how bad you sound 🙂 So is laughter – my boys (even though they wouldn’t admit it but the twinkle in their eyes said otherwise) and I laughed together at my horrid singing and did I mention, dancing?!

My goofiness got us all off on the right foot this morning and created an environment that made yelling at morning annoyances way harder.

As for my teenagers – I gotta say. It’s hard to relate to them a lot but being goofy and making a fool of myself is turning out to be a great way to connect (Take note though: make sure to do so when they aren’t in a scale 10 bad mood. 1-9 and goofiness is generally accepted!)
